Fourteeners Journal Privacy Policy

Effective date: October 14, 2026

Fourteeners Journal is designed as a private personal journal for Colorado 14er experiences. The app is built so that your Journal, photographs, and attached hike information remain under your control.

Fourteeners Journal does not require an account, does not contain advertising, and does not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs.

Information stored by Fourteeners Journal

Fourteeners Journal stores the information you add to the app on your device. This may include:

  • summit and attempt records
  • dates and outcomes
  • notes and stories
  • photographs you choose to add
  • Want to Climb selections
  • references to Apple Health workouts attached to Journal entries

Journal data is stored inside the app’s local storage unless you choose to export or share it.

Oberon Works does not operate a backend service that receives or stores your Fourteeners Journal data.

Apple Health

Fourteeners Journal can read compatible workout and fitness information from Apple Health when you grant permission.

Depending on the workout and the information made available through Apple Health, this may include:

  • workout type and timing
  • distance
  • active energy
  • heart rate
  • effort information
  • workout route data

Fourteeners Journal requests read access only to the Health information it uses. The app does not write workouts, routes, heart-rate information, or other Health data to Apple Health.

Your Health permissions can be changed at any time through Apple’s Health settings. If access is unavailable or revoked, your Journal entries, text, and photographs remain intact.

Fourteeners Journal does not transmit your Apple Health data to Oberon Works.

Photographs

When you choose a photograph for a Journal entry, Fourteeners Journal stores its own copy inside the app’s storage.

Deleting the original photograph from your Apple Photos library does not automatically remove the copy stored in Fourteeners Journal.

Original image data may contain metadata created by your camera or photo library, which can include information such as capture date, camera details, and location information.

Maps and route information

Fourteeners Journal may display maps using Apple MapKit.

Map content is provided by Apple and is subject to Apple’s applicable privacy practices and terms.

When a Journal entry is associated with a compatible Apple Health workout, Fourteeners Journal may display route information made available through HealthKit.

Fourteeners Journal does not use your device’s live location to build a Journal entry and does not request broad user-location permission for ordinary app use.

External links

Fourteeners Journal includes optional links to third-party websites and services, including resources such as 14ers.com and other educational or mountain-safety resources.

Opening an external link takes you outside Fourteeners Journal. Information you provide to those services is governed by their own privacy policies and practices.

Sharing

Fourteeners Journal allows you to intentionally share certain Journal content using the standard sharing features provided by iOS.

Shared content may include information you choose to send, such as:

  • Journal text
  • photographs
  • progress information
  • already-loaded workout metrics

Sharing occurs only when you initiate it.

Once content is shared outside Fourteeners Journal, its handling depends on the service or recipient you selected.

Journal backups

Fourteeners Journal allows you to create a portable .fjbackup file.

A backup can contain:

  • Journal entries
  • notes and stories
  • dates and outcomes
  • photographs stored by Fourteeners Journal
  • photo order and associations
  • Want to Climb selections
  • references to associated Apple Health workouts

A Fourteeners Journal backup does not contain the underlying Apple Health workout metrics or HealthKit route coordinates themselves.

The backup may preserve metadata embedded in original photograph files, including location metadata where present.

Backup security

Fourteeners Journal backup files are not encrypted by Fourteeners Journal.

They should be stored only in locations you trust and shared only with people or services you intend to receive them.

Checksums and format validation are used to help detect damaged or altered backup content, but they do not provide encryption or password protection.

Restoring and moving to another device

Apple device backup, iCloud, and device-transfer behavior is governed by your Apple account and Apple backup settings.

Fourteeners Journal also provides manual export and restore as an additional way to preserve your Journal.

A manual .fjbackup restores Fourteeners Journal content, but it does not recreate Apple Health workouts or route data.

For previously attached Health information to remain available after moving devices, the corresponding Health data must also be present in Apple Health on the destination device and appropriate permissions must be granted.

Data retention and deletion

Deleting a Journal entry removes it from your active Journal.

Fourteeners Journal may retain recovery information associated with deleted or changed Journal data in local app storage to protect against accidental data loss or interrupted storage operations.

This recovery information is not transmitted to Oberon Works.

Removing the Fourteeners Journal app and its local application data from your device will generally remove the app’s locally stored Journal data, subject to any copies that may exist in Apple device backups, manual .fjbackup files, or content you previously shared or exported.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Fourteeners Journal does not use third-party advertising SDKs.

Fourteeners Journal does not use cross-app or cross-site tracking for advertising purposes.

Fourteeners Journal does not create an advertising profile based on your Journal, photographs, Health data, or climbing activity.

Information you send to Oberon Works

If you contact Oberon Works for support or another inquiry, Oberon Works receives the information you choose to provide in that communication, such as your email address, message, and any files or screenshots you intentionally attach.

Support communications are separate from Fourteeners Journal’s on-device Journal storage.

Please avoid sending sensitive Health information or private Journal material unless it is necessary for the support request.

Changes to this policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated as Fourteeners Journal evolves.

Material changes that affect how the app handles user data will be reflected in an updated version of this policy and its effective date.
